Gratitude can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. It makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

This Place is a 42-minute documentary that I co-produced with Kala Philo (Walkie Talkie Productions).  It contains my interviews of three families regarding the efforts they went to to build, and the significance they placed on, the memorials they made at the site of their child’s death.  In the first interview, the parents describe the roadside memorial they constructed for their son who died at the hands of a drunk driver.  The second vignette is of a mother and her daughter’s friend who created a garden at the site where the daughter’s/friend’s murdered body was found.  The third story is about a mother/wife who erected a large roadside memorial for her daughter (and later her husband) at the site where they were killed in an automobile accident on Thanksgiving Day, 2006.

A high resolution DVD is available for $15. If you would like a copy, please contact me by phone at (512) 658-2674 or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
